A Eurovision Honeymoon

This week's podcast has a personal feel as this time next week I will be on my way to my honeymoon to the south of France, so I have chosen some songs with a journey/holiday theme although as you will hear I seem to make up the connections as I go along.
Unscripted and disjointed warbling at it's best.

I will be back in about three weeks after the big adventure x !

Random Eurovision

Sorry for the big gaps between podcasts but I have been slightly busy!

This week has a totally random feel as I just chose 7 songs from the random lyrics tab on the diggiloo.net website at about 3pm today. Luckily most of the songs were good 'uns although I did slightly chicken out on the full names of the performers of the Turkish entry!

I intend to do another podcast in about 2 weeks time so if you have any requests or programme thoughts or show ideas get in touch!

2013 Round Up

Eurovision is over and we have a winner -  although we know the dates of Eurovision 2014 we await the knowledge of exactly where Eurovision will be held next year.

In this episode I go over some of the notes I made during Eurovision, about the visuals and the singing - including A LOT of technical things I noticed happen again and again...

I also gloss over the voting 'scandal' and suggest that it's really all a storm in a samovar. However the difference between jury and televote is growing - can anythign be done to curb it?
I come up witha voting system, based on an Olympic sport, that might widen the pool but narrow the gap...

2013 Final Predictions

So the final is almost upon us - aaaaaarrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh!

The semis are behind us (with some questionable qualifiers and omissions) and the running order finalised. In today's podcast we look to the final and decided who has got the best and worst draws. This year is a very open one and any of about 10 songs could win - just where will the ex-Yugoslav douze points go...?

We will be back in a few weeks time after the dust has settled and the results chewed over and we will then review EXACTLY what happened and why and what they possible fallout might be!

Semi-final predictions

Now that "Shite or Alright" is over @mrs_forky is back on her todd...
Although we decided our fave songs of the podcasts and our overall favourite, how did the songs compare when placed in their semi-finals? As you will find out one semi-final was an open and shut case, the other needed a mega tie-breaker!

I also examine the fact that this year SVT decided the running order, not a draw as per usual, and wonder if 1) they did a good job
2) it is 'fair'  and unbiased and
3) the winning broadcaster for 2014 would consider using this method again next year..?
I have a *very* busy week ahead but am hoping to do another quick round up podcast next Friday to look back at the semis and look forward to the final !
Music from Loreen, Corry Brocken and Linda Martin...

The final Shite or Alright of 2013 is here ! @mrs_forky and @jopijedd cast a sharp eye and tongue over some more of this year's Eurovision entries.
Introduced this week in the style of BBC 2 -  and just incase you are wondering, this is the DDVHolland podcast and not the Antiques Roadshow!

During this week's show, Mr Jopijedd has a rant about the Killers, we also remember that for smaller, less known countries in Eurovision circles there is not such thing as bad publicity... I try to convince him that San Marino *IS* a proper country and I also wonder if DVVHolland could enter Eurovision...  And if anybody ever wondered what a Cypriot Wurzels tribute band would sound like - wonder no more!
And just to re-iterate don't vote UKIP.

And at the end of the podcast we put together the 6 heat winners to have our De Vogels Van Holland tip for the top!

Entries under the microscope are Ireland, Lithuania, Cyprus, Sweden, Montenegro and San Marino.

Because of the short amount of time since the last podcast  we are extending the last #jinglypo competition  to next week when we work out who we think will be qualifying for the final.
If you know the Eurovision host town/city that jingly Po is going on holiday to, send us a tweet at @DVVHolland with the hashtag #jinglypo  or write on our facebook wall - address below - with your answer (CLUE - think retro and think holiday!)  And yes you can guess as many times as you want!

We had such good 'ratings' for this feature last year that we would like to thank everybody who listened to it this year and have the balls to come back this year

If you *are* new, thanks for coming, tell all your Eurovision friends and SHARE SHARE SHARE !!!!

Episode 5 of Shite or Alright is here ! @mrs_forky and @jopijedd cast a sharp eye and tongue over some more of this year's Eurovision entries.
Sponsored this week by the Home Counties top Eurovision shop, Rackhams.

During this week's show, we discuss which past Eurovision stars should be phoning their lawyers and which entry has an ending written in the style of Harry Hill. Mr Jopijedd thinks one song's title sounds like his bowel movements (don't ask me how or why) and describes almost perfectly how the Norwegian entry *should* be staged. Whilst I think one contestant might not only send the arena to sleep but fall asleep themselves on stage and that one act should be kidnapped before they sing for all our sakes. We also agree that there is now no need to ever go and see a West End musical again... However we get distracted right at the end by some absurdly spelt Welsh Football results on the telly.
P.S. - anybody else remember Cicero...?
Entries under the microscope are Croatia, Ukraine, Serbia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Norway and Italy.

We also reveal this week's competition and the answer to the last week's poser - revealing our very first lucky winner !!!!
If you know the Eurovision host town/city that jingly Po is going on holiday to, send us a tweet at @DVVHolland with the hashtag #jinglypo  or write on our facebook wall - address below - with your answer (CLUE - think retro!)  And yes you can guess as many times as you want!

Episode 4 of Shite or Alright is here ! @mrs_forky and @jopijedd cast a sharp eye and tongue over some Eurovision songs.

During this week's show, we suggest that Limmy should do Eurovision (but for which country....?), Mr Jopijedd is reminded of Mike and the Mechanics and thinks of unsuitable internet searches whilst I am put in mind of the much maligned game show Name That Tune (with its many Eurovision connections) and the might of Germanic genre-mixing, Mister Fisto - can you work out how and why? We also have some nuch needed and helpful infomercials for your delectation!
Unfortunately the podcast ended violently but am well enough to write up this small blurb...
Entries under the microscope are Spain, Hungary, Moldova, Armenia, Netherlands and Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

We also reveal the answer to the previous listeners' competition - featuring Jingly Po - and set up a new one with a fantastic imaginary prize that I may need to win myself!
If you know the suitably punctuated song that jingly Po is learning to sing, send us a tweet at @DVVHolland with the hashtag #jinglypo  or write on our facebook wall - address below - with your song and singer.

Episode 3 of Shite or Alright is back ! @mrs_forky and @jopijedd cast a sharp eye and tongue over some more Eurovision songs.

This week we name check Martin Kesici (again - just!) and Ireland West Music TV (hooray!), we ponder over the possibility that PJ and Duncan may have influenced Eurovision, we rejoice in the fact that Simple Minds have made a comeback and wonder if there are ANY Eurovision songs that don't have a pointless dubstep breakdown somewhere in it...
Entries under the microscope are Slovenia, Romania, Belgium, UK, Latvia, Finland and Albania.

At the end of the podcast we reveal the second listeners' competition - featuring Jingly Po!
If you know the place which jingly Po is singing about, send us a tweet at @DVVHolland with the hashtag #jinglypo or write on our facebook wall - address below - with your song and singer.

Episode 2 of Shite or Alright is back ! @mrs_forky and @jopijedd were both feeling rather underwhelmed on day of recording -  and the choices of song didn't improve the mood.

This week we name check Martin Kesici (again - several times), I show my age by referencing Emmerdale (Farm), we decide which song could've been sung by Kim Jong Il, I introduce @jopijedd to Lynda Woodruff, we try to work out our scores in binary and can you guess who everybody's favourite grammatically incorrect pop band is...?.

In this episode the songs under scrutiny are we ruminate over Bulgaria, Israel, Switzerland, Russia, Germany and Iceland.
Sponsored this week by Fine Fare supermarkets and Prendergast Aerials !

At the end of the podcast we reveal out inaugural listeners' competition - featuring Jingly Po!

If you know where jingly Po has gone, send us a tweet at @DVVH with the hashtag #jinglypo  or write on our facebook wall - address below - with your full answer ! Your imagnary prize will be sent by imaginary mail! Entries must be in by Friday 19th April, Midday UK time !!!
