The duet is an unlikely one. Vlatko is 27 and an up and coming star whilst Esma is 69 and a well loved singer and humanitarian of Romani origin. As the song was premiered as a video clip it is hard to see chemistry or comment on singing ability. The video clip presented in the show was very colourful and fast paced. Esme is noted for her colourful and outlandish attire and she was seen in many different outfits in the 3 minutes. Also there were a lot of sweeping camera angles that chopped and changed which helped keep the song fresh. Also they had 3 female dancers doing ballroom type movements.
In a strange turn of events, within 24 hours of the video clip being shown on TV it was withdrawn for 'not being to the broadcasters standards' .(read into this what you will) The clip below is the only one of the original I can find online.
The song has a
Balkan tune but a more modern backing track. The two singers don't do a lot of
singing together as he seems to sing a lot of tune while she does the more
"Balkan yodelling" thing. They don't really appear together on the
clip too. The chorus is quite easy to pick up although the tune of the whole
song is not really strong. The backing track though is very interesting and has
lots of stops starts, fast, slow and rhythm changes.
Overall I quite
this song. It is not a bad song and not a good song either. This is one of
those song that will really depend on the performance on the night and how it
comes across through the lens. Like the Croatian entry this will go down well
in Eastern Europe but is on the cusp of not
getting to the finals.
