The song was
presented in on quite a large stage but was very bare, had basic lighting and
no studio audience was present. It must also be added that both were miming.
This was very much a presentation of the song and not about the singers'
abilities or how it might be staged on the night. I think they wanted to really
show that fact that they had chosen a songwriter with previous.
The song is a
building ballad performed in English. It has a 'musical' quality, almost like
it is the theme song to a film. The duo's voices go well together and it is
quite clever how they sing separately and when whey sing together, they sing in
harmony. During the last third of the song it does feel like a bit of a fight.
Too many voices, too many tunes and too many people vying for you attention, it
just gets muddled.
The song has a very
strong structure and has lots of 'moments' but I have found it extremely hard
to remember or recall. After 3 listens I still can't remember any of the lyrics
or sing any off it off hand. One also
needs to wonder if they can sing this live. If it feels muddles and noisy as a
recorded version, it will probably feel worse live.
I think this is
very much a 'Eurovision by numbers' song and performance. It is almost so
Eurovision, it doesn't work. Parallels will be made towards Ell & Nikki's
performance in 2011 and Pastora Soler's song last year, which also was written
by G:son. This song is not new, not inventive nor exciting. It will do well but
this would be a very poor winner if it were to succeed.
