SERBIA

The Serbian Final was held on March 3rd at the RTS TV Studios in Belgrade, hosted by Maja Nikolic. Before the final there was a semi-final where the long list of 15 was reduced to 5. The winner, chosen fully by SMS voting, was the group Moje 3 with the song "Ljubav je svoja" (Love is everywhere)

The three singers (Mirna, Sara and Nevena) seem to be playing characters on stage. One is in a PVC white number, with wedding dress overtone, another is in a red cat suit with matching horns whilst the other is in a short gold dress. The girls seem to play on this during the song as the strut about pointing, hair flicking and gesticulating towards each other and the audience. Their movement is a little unsteady at times, but they do seem to be in huge heels! It is also quite a feat that they can sing at quite a good standard and do quite an energetic dance routine at the same time.

The song, wholly in Serbian, has a lot of schlager qualities. It starts of quite low and quiet then builds to the chorus. Most of the song, apart from bits of the chorus, is sung individually, which is also a clever trick. This gives the girls time to concentrate on dancing, catch their breath as well as sharing out the parts of the song to the person who sings them the best. The three girls can sing quite well and the girls seem to do their job really well. It is also very much a show and performance and with this styling they will definitely be memorable.

As we speak the song is apparently undergoing a makeover. According to the composer of the song the arrangement will be slightly different as will the choreography and costumes. Although they will be recording an English version it has been stated that they will be singing in Serbian.

The selection process was not straightforward. A lot of the fan favourites did not get through into the final and there were rumours of some kind of cover up of the voting. Even Marija Serifovic seemingly protested by wearing a t-shirt saying " Music over corruption" in Serbian. Maybe she feld hard done by as one of the contests who failed in the semi final was her brother...

 

This is a breath of fresh air really - a proper pop song ! The girls work well and will get the odd dirty old man vote, although if they are not in those costumes they might not! The song is catchy and memorable, even in Serbian, and will get its fair share of votes. This will definitely get into the final and has a high certainly finishing top 10 if not top 5.
