The 5 members of
the band are dispersed on stage with Agathonas centre stage with a balalaika.
The band are dressed in black with yellow kilted type skirts on. The band does
a lot of moving about and does a fair bit of singing. The tune is quite simple
and repetitive which makes it easier on the ear. at the end the band does some
dancing which is a tad embarrassing and out of time, which will need some
ironing out. The contrast between the highly exuberant band and the static Agathonas
does kind of work. The stage is very simple and so a lot could be added to it
when transferring to Malmo .
The song starts off
quite typically Greek ballad-like way but then changes up into a very fast
rock/ska number. The song is mainly in Greek, apart from the repetitive chorus
which is the same phrase repeated over and over again. The song is not
particularly engaging however it is interesting and different. My personal
issue as a Eurovision fan is that this is a poor rip off of Turkey 's Athena
(which was 9 years ago) and has the madcap-ness of InCulto from 2010. It just
feels a little bit old and unoriginal but to the untrained eye and ear this
will feel unusual and different.
The Greek
itself was not of a high standard and this was the stand out song of the
preselection. In fact it is one of the stand out songs of Eurovision right now.
At least one could not accuse the Greeks of trying to send something that doesn't
have a chance of winning and crippling their economy even more. The song will
almost definitely qualify for the final and will probably be a solid top 10 if
not top 5. But for the first time in a long time it is not a tuneless bint in a
short skirt who can't sing, but a Greek song with ooomph.
